The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has instructed all public and private schools and colleges across Bangladesh to observe August 5 as “July Mass Uprising Day” and July 16 as “July Martyrs’ Day.”Bangladesh tourism guide

The directive was detailed in an official order signed by DSHE Assistant Director (General Administration) Md. Khalid Hossain and circulated on Thursday.

The order states that letters have already been sent to heads of institutions and relevant authorities to ensure proper observance of these days.

According to the notification, the government has officially declared August 5 as July Mass Uprising Day, which will be marked annually as a public holiday. This day has also been included in the ‘Category A’ list of national and international observances as per Cabinet Division guidelines.

Similarly, July 16 has been designated as July Martyrs’ Day and is classified under ‘Category B’ in the same Cabinet Division circular. Institutions have been asked to arrange appropriate programs and commemorative events to mark the significance of both days.

Meanwhile, the advisory council of the interim government has decided not to observe August 8 as “New Bangladesh Day.” Though it had previously been declared to commemorate the formation of the interim government, the decision faced widespread criticism and has since been withdrawn.
