Afghanistan’s Taliban government announced on Saturday that the existing ceasefire agreement with Pakistan will remain in effect, even though recent talks aimed at solidifying the truce ended without progress.

“There is no issue with the ceasefire previously agreed upon with Pakistan; it will hold,” Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said at a press conference in Kabul.

The statement comes after a week of border clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces that left dozens dead and heightened tensions along the frontier. The violence had prompted diplomatic efforts, including mediation attempts by Qatar and Turkey, to secure a longer-term understanding between the two sides.

Mujahid expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts, saying, “We thank friendly countries, Qatar and Turkey, but we do not see anything further to do for now.”

While both governments have expressed a desire to avoid renewed hostilities, analysts note that the border remains volatile, with disputes over territory and cross-border militancy continuing to strain relations between Kabul and Islamabad.

The Taliban administration has maintained that it seeks peaceful relations with neighboring countries, while Pakistan has urged stronger cooperation to prevent militant activities along the shared border. The coming weeks will determine whether the fragile truce can hold amid ongoing regional tensions.
