The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a one-month extension for filing income tax returns for individual taxpayers for the fiscal year 2025–26, setting the new deadline at December 31, 2025.

In a separate order, the NBR has allowed taxpayers facing registration-related difficulties in the e-return system to apply to their respective Deputy Commissioners of Taxes by December 15, 2025, providing appropriate justification for their inability to file online.

This year, online filing of income tax returns has been made mandatory for all individual taxpayers, with exemptions for senior citizens aged 65 or above, physically disabled or specially-abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, legal representatives filing on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. Exempted taxpayers may still file e-returns voluntarily if they choose.

Authorized representatives, including income tax lawyers, chartered accountants, cost and management accountants, and chartered secretaries, are permitted to submit e-returns on behalf of taxpayers. Bangladeshi taxpayers living abroad are not required to file online, but they may register and submit e-returns by sending information such as passport number, NID number, and email address to ereturn@etaxnbr.gov.bd
