Danish Development Cooperation Minister Ulla Tørnæs called on the Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at his office today. Danish Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of Danish Foreign Ministry and Charge d’ affaires of the Royal Danish Embassy in Dhaka.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction at the existing excellent bilateral relations and emphasized on further deepening and widening of relations to the mutual benefits of the peoples of two countries. The Danish Minister informed the Foreign Minister Ali that the Danish Crown Princess Mary is also visiting Bangladesh now. Referring to their joint field visit to Barisal and interactions with the rural women and girls, she delightfully informed the Foreign Minister that the theme of their visit is ÔWomen EmpowermentÕ. She was highly impressed to see herself the remarkable socio-economic development that Bangladesh has made, since her first visit to Bangladesh a decade ago.
Foreign Minister thanked the Danish people and Government for unwavering support and assistance during and after the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. He also recalled his visit to Denmark last September, as part of four-country official Nordic tour and expressed satisfaction about the fruitful meeting that was held with his the [then] Danish counterpart.
The Danish Minister expressed her satisfaction at the ongoing transformation of bilateral relations from traditional development aid or assistance to trade and investment partnerships. The Danish Minister expressed satisfaction at the ever increasing bilateral trade relations between the two countries, which has doubled in the past few years. They also discussed about Danish investments in Bangladesh.
Besides, the two ministers also exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interests, including mutual support to each other’s candidates in the international bodies/organizations.
The Danish Minister profusely praised the Bangladesh authorities for successful hosting of the 136th IPU Assembly in Dhaka.
