Bangamata’s 91st birth anniversary observed

The 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata
Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed today amid different programmes.

The theme of the day this year was ‘Bangamata is a fearless
companion in crisis and struggle’ (Bangamata Sangkate Sangrame Nirvik
Sahajatri).

Marking the day, Awami League and its associate and like-minded
bodies, various cultural and social organizations paid glowing
tributes to Bangamata by placing wreaths on her grave at Banani
graveyard in the morning.

On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at first, Awami League
General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader paid homage to Bangamata by placing a wreath on her grave.

Later, the AL general secretary along with party’s central leaders
placed another wreath on her grave.

Talking to journalists after paying homage, Quader said Bangamata
Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only wife of Bangabandhu but also
his co-fighter in his entire life.

“From behind the curtain, Bangamata had always given inspirations,
strength and courage to Bangabandhu in struggles as well as every
crisis moment,” he adding, that in absence of Bangabandhu, Bangamata
had contributed extensively to the nation’s struggle for freedom from
behind the scene.

AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque,
Shajahan Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General
Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud,
Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul-Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim,
Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain and Mirza Azam, Science and
Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, Office Secretary
Barrister Biplab Barua and Central Working Committee Members Dr
Mustafa Jalal Mahiuddin and Anwar Hossain were present, among others,
while paying tributes on behalf of the party.

Later, Dhaka city north and south units of AL, Bangladesh Krishak
League, Awami Swechchhasebak League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila
League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Tanti League, Awami Matsyajibi
League, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa
Mujib Parishad and different other social and cultural organizations
paid homage to Bangamata on her birth anniversary.

Doa, milad-mahfil and Quran khawani were held there on the occasion
seeking eternal peace of Bangamata’s soul.

Marking the birth anniversary, the Ministry of Women and Children
Affairs organized Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Padak-2021
distribution ceremony at Osmani Memorial auditorium.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the ceremony as the chief
guest joining it virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban
here.

On behalf of the Premier, State Minister for Women and Children
Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira handed over the first ever introduced
Padak to the recipients, which is also the highest state honor for
women in the country.

The state minister chaired the programme while Women and Children
Affairs Secretary Md. Sayedul Islam gave the welcome address.

Dr Syed Anwar Husain, Professor of “Bangabandhu Chair” at
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) spoke at the function as
keynote speaker, while Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha (JMS) Chairman Begum
Chemon Ara Tayab spoke as discussant.

A documentary on the life and works of Bangamata Begum Fazilatun
Nesa Mujib, mother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was also screened.

AL relief and social welfare sub-committee arranged a discussion at
the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office. On the occasion, on
behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, special gifts were given to
physicians who are frontline fighters to face Covid-19.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader addressed the discussion as the
chief guest.

Convener of AL relief and social welfare sub-committee AKM
Rahmatullah, MP, chaired the programme moderated by its member
secretary and AL Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi.

AL Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque and
Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif
and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Dhaka City South AL President Abu Ahmed
Mannafi and General Secretary Humayun Kabir addressed it, among
others.

Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad arranged a discussion
and doa mahfil at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office.

AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim addressed the
function as the chief guest with organization’s founding Chairman
Raqibur Rahman in the chair.

AL Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain and host organization’s
Secretary General KM Shahid Ullah addressed it, among others.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media
broadcast special programmes marking the day.

Born on August 8, 1930 at Tungipara village in Gopalganj, she was
brutally killed by the assassins of Bangabandhu on the black night of
August 15, 1975.
